If...

If I could sail the world three times over
and climb the highest mountain
and stand at the rim of Mount Etna's crater
I would, with you by my side.
With you by my side
there is no fear,
If I could
stir a crowd with a thousand funny lines
and raise the roof with laughter,
then I would
with you by my side
there is only joy,
If I could heal the suffering
with faith and caring
my heart full of sharing
with you by my side
there is only love...
I do not like this word "If"
what is it but a false barrier,
making hopes and dreams
worthless.
"If" is a cruel word that
implies the sabotage
of great and wonderful
thoughts and actions.
A poor relation to the word
"but", full of doubting and lack
of faith.
Let me begin again:
I will sail the world three times over
and climb the highest mountain
and stand on the rim of Mount Etna's Crater
With you by my side
there is no fear,
I will stir a crowd with a thousand funny lines
(it would take that many!)
and raise the roof with laughter
with you by my side
there is only joy
I will heal the suffering
with faith and caring
and endless sharing
with you by my side
there is only love.
I bequith to you my soul, my modest creative powers and my
silent thoughts, the most powerful gift of all.

Thank you so much Avis. It is dedicated to someone very special in my life who I have invited to climb a volcano with me early next year. It will be a miracle if my dreams are answered. The words "but" and "if" will have to be taken out of the English language, I can't deal with such uncertainty!!Thanks for your wonderful words of encouragement. I look forward to reading your writings.Elfreda
What a great way of turning a negative into a positive. This is well-written, very poetic and gives a great message. Wonderful!!
