When the seagull lost her Friend

When I lost you,
a friendship true,
I fell like a seagull
with broken wings
and took to drinking
the intoxicating air
to help me breath
to numb my care.
When I lost you
I plunged into ruin
and lost
everything that mattered
my world just shattered,
and took to sleeping
long hours at a time
hoping to heal
hoping to forget
I was falling without
a safety net.
And still I feel the
steep decline
with no sign of
slowing down,
What will it
feel like when
I touch the ground
Will my wings heal
in time,
just enough,
to
help me climb
back upon
a rock?
and find some comfort
among the flock
and try no more
to reach for something
no longer there.
And sit in comfort
among the flock
no desire to fly
or discover new dives,
Just sit and be glad that
I survived...
Losing my friend
in one fell swoop,
no time to say goodbye...
