Alone In the Desert

You left me here,

alone in the desert

with not a drop of water to quench my aching thirst.

You left me here

bare footed

in the hands of vultures

and the burning hot sand

scalding my feet.

You left me here

to die at the mercy of the Gods

to feed on prickly plants and venomous snakes.

While you left to seek your desires

on a horse with a lady carrying a child.

She was your Queen of Sheba,

She was your palace of contentment.

And I, a mere slave

disposable over night.

left behind without a moment of hesitation.

Out of mind, out of sight.

And yet I walked towards hope,

and stumbled over my faith,

that lies dead yet not buried

in the desert where I lay forgotten

in your dreams.

Do bravely horse, for you carry

a man of steel on your back.

And one day he will leave you

lying in the desert when you are old

and grey.
